Getting rid of the roll over valve

The only reason I did this was to prevent oil and moisture from entering the intake tract. I had no problems with the rollover valve.
I have oil vapor separators on my race car keeps oil out of the
intercooler. http://www.radiumauto.com/Dual-Catch-Can-Kit-Lotus-2ZZ-GE-P241.aspx

I had no problems for 2600 miles now 78 miles later the new vent tube plugged solid with ice. I lost all the oil, the sled is a oily mess. It shut down due to lack
of oil. 5/8 heater hose routed perfect, end cut at a angle mimicking the old road draft tubes (you young guys look that up). Below zero riding in very powdery conditions,
this is also the first time I had to stop and break ice out of the tunnel. Sounded like it was grinding rocks. Anyways put it back to stock, cleaned it off, put in 2.75 quarts of oil and will run it tomorrow. Looked like it was blowing oil out of the top of the tank. I was doing slow trail riding never went over 50mph, never got over 6000 rpm, never even got into the boost. At least I have my Apex so the trip isn't ruined.
Wow that sucks. Mine worked flawless today. Maybe put a slit in the hose up further in the footwell facing outward to relieve the pressure if this happens. We had 14 inches of snow today and the end of hose was getting hit with snow all day.

Wow I was so close to doing this mod. I know this the first I have heard of a failure. Think I will wait thats. what warranties are for. Shagnos I hope you don’t have some bad Karma hanging over you.

I didn't put mine right down through , I ended my hose at the bottom by the chain case there is two drain holes if anything comes up to hose can go out through ,that way you Don't have it sticking out in the snow

Yep exactly but about a inch up inside it was frozen solid.........did a SD30 code and shut off. At least that failsafe worked.

How the heck did it freeze up? There's so much hot air coming out of there along with the engine exhaust there's no way it should ever freeze. I have over 800 miles on already with this mod and literally thousands of miles on my 1200 Doos with the same setup and no freeze ups ever. Trail use and deep snow use and all conditions under the sun.

And you freeze it up in one ride?? Gotta be that Avatar getting some bad juju there or something.

If you remember in an earlier post I made, I mentioned for the guys worried about freezing the end up, to put a slit in the hose before the end of it somewhere, so it has another point of relief if one was worried about freeze up. They 1200 Doo comes like this and so does the Apex.

Anyway, if it blew the oil out, you'll need to re-seal that tank seal back up.

Just the right conditions, snow dust like crazy. Running slow everything on the cool side.....go figure. Filled it back up and ran it could not see any leak. I resealed my tank with Permatex Right stuff. That is some bad #*$&@ stuff, been using it for 25yrs. Takes a lot to make it leak. It looked like it was pushed out the top by where the vent hose nipple housing.

I also did this modification and noticed oil at the bottom bolt on engine oil tank and was done from day one know with 550 kms now what reseal oil tank

These oil tanks to be resealed regardless , The seal is junk from factory let the silicone firm a bit before tightening

So true, everyone, every-single 998 I've had in the shop for tuning has had either a little weeping or oil pouring and/or dripping on the floor.

The only one has been completely dry is my own machine AFTER I re-sealed my oil tank and installed this mod.

I'm thinking I'm going back to stock. At least if the oil tank blows a seal with the valve warranty will cover it. If it happens with my mod I will be out of luck. On really cold mornings if my sled sits outside I will either pull the hose by the valve or loosen the oil fill plug until my sled warms up. I think this whole situation SUCKS and Yamaha needs to step up and remedy this crap!

Don't worry so much about it Joe. If it leaks, just put the stock stuff back on it and take it in if that's what you want. No big deal.

I have many out there like mine that have gone on week long backpack trips and sat out all night long and no freezing hoses. The problems they have had is frozen relays though where they won't start.

To have that hose ice up is an extremely rare event. I don't even know what you have to do to have it do that other than a bunch of short trips where it doesn't get warmed up much.

If you're worried about it, just cut a slit in it somewhere down low above the running board for a "relief valve" like we had on the 1200.

Just buy a Real Rollover valve and if worried about moisture in intercooler or other parts of system clean them out once in awhile. Heck maybe someone will make a sight glass and drain for the intercooler to make it simple. We always just remove the tubes threw some Acetone in there and used a leaf blower to dry it out nice. That was after a big oil down and it got every bit out.

That's what happens when the factory system dumps the water vapor and oil mist into the intake tract! It all goes into the intake and thru the engine if your lucky. Lots of guys have the lower half of the intercooler fill up with oil and water too.

That's where I have mine, about an inch or so below the running board with a little angle cut on it towards the rear. Exhaust actually burned, or I should say discolored the end of my clear hose a bit. Part of the reason I switched over to heater hose.

Apex had no roll over valve.
Is the rov the cause of dumping water vapor and oil into the intake tract?
It's more than mist, its foamy oil, needed many scott towels to clean it out.
If it is the rov, is there a better one I can use which won't cause this?

You know on ATV's a water trap is used. A low point in the intake hose the water and oil will fall into even under boost pressure. Make the trap removable for easy clean up.
