Why? No real benefit in my opinion. What i was asking if anyone took one of these 2 1/2" mufflers in and out and installed a 3 inch outlet on it.

Just wondering if it would let more heat out.
I have to stop and put my boot in the snow to cool down my foot.

When I am waiting for those Mini-z's to catch up sometimes I'll go 20mph and drag my boot in the snow. The front of my boot has the sole coming apart from all the heat, even if that foot gets wet it will never get cold. Might have to just get a muffler without the insulation wrap.

I know td says no insulation when installing the stock heat shield around the sq muffler so I think it would apply to most high flow mufflers. I know some guys use a little at the top and bottom of muffler to keep shield tight and reduce the chance of any rattle or vibration noise. When I am waiting for those Mini-z's to catch up sometimes I'll go 20mph and drag my boot in the snow. I just love that video. One of the things that convinced me to go to the SW in the first place. Now the boost addiction has taken hold.

Huh, I did see that they suggest putting your stock shield on without the insulation for stealth reasons, but thought it was because of too tight of a fit with insulation. So the thought is no insulation will allow for faster cooling?
My SQ 2.5” is scheduled for delivery today, and my thoughts were to try and fit it with all the insulation, or as much as the fit would allow.
So please tell me what is best? Shield with or without insulation, or no shield at all?
I did not have any Heat problems with my mss and Max Spool 16, but I did remove the insulation under the muffler to stop any oil absorption and thus cause a fire hazard, as suggested by some, and just added a couple of layers of some self adhesive metallic tape.

That is the SQ 2.5”?
So all of the stock insulation does fit with stock shield?

When I recieved my TD SQ 2.5, I installed new factory heat shields I didn't install the factory insulation under them as TD said not to and I didn't think it would fit.
When researching PM options TD told me to install both shields and insulation on their stock mod mufflers.

On my last ride this season the sun was going to murder the trails with 60 degree temps. I went solo early while the snow was still good and hard.
I followed a single track off the trail that followed a log road. The track took me across a 3 year old clear cut and into the woods on the other side. The log road started climbing but the snow was still really hard. I could see another cut above the wood line so I kept going. The terrain started getting steeper.
As I broke out into the top cut I could see the track in front of me went all the way to the top which would offer a nice view.
Slight problem though. The sun had been beating on that hillside all morning. The snow was knee deep and completely mush. I felt my sled start to sink, so I panicked and just pinned it. Let me tell you what, I may only have a 129, but that 998 with Max Spool 16 turning at 9,050RPM got up on that snow and ate that hill for breakfast. My stock muffler was roaring. I don't think the skis touched all the way through that cut.
I really think I would have been screwed on any other 129" sled. The amount of power on tap saved me that day.

My TD SQ 2.5” just arrived today. It arrived with damage so I sent it back but not before getting a peek at it.
I noticed that there are no welded rivet brackets for the wrap around shield, nor does it come with the screw bracket on the top pipe, for the top shield to fasten to.
Did you make your own and weld them on?
