Knockout kit


The hub was removed. Collar & seal Separated from the hub and remained on the crankshaft.
Wondering if its ok to just reinstall the hub? I think I know the answer.

Note: this is not my sled. Unfortunately, I did not use green on my collar as well. So ill be expecting something to deal with myself.
So you pulled the stub shaft back out and the press in collar stayed on the crankshaft? I would think you could just slide the collar off the crankshaft and reassemble with green locktite.
I didn’t put any locktite on mine either because it wasn’t in the instructions to do so. But I see that Facebook comment he made saying to locktite it in. Poor instruction for sure!

One of the guys found the collar sitting on his crank and could not get it out. His thought was just to throw the hub back in. I don't think that's a very good idea.
Note: it's very discouraging to think about pulling this thing apart to apply a better Grease then supplied with the kit. Only to find out your back at square one. It may just take a couple more minutes for the new grease to last.
 
It’s my understanding early 998s this collar doesn’t fit properly. The ones I’ve done had to be pressed in with a press , no way they would just slide in the hub with manual force
 
Not at shop to compare, but is the spline size different on the 973 vs 1049? The 973 did not have gear for crank position sensor but that would not matter on a 998.
I’ve only done it with the 1049 stub so it’s all I can vouch for. Don’t have a 973 to compare to.
 
No not ok IMHO remove it. What year is this sled ?

NYTurbo, I just messaged the guy one more time and begged him to take care of this business. His claim to me was, it went on loose. I told him I needed to be beat down with a soft mallet and a 2x4

Mine is a 2018 and it pressed in but not a heavy press Don’t know what would cause the collar to stick to the crankshaft to the point u couldn’t just slide it off
I believe the stub shaft gets pretty hot while running which makes me wonder how effective the locktite would be anyway

I've been thinking along those lines. At Max the hottest point on the primary shouldn't get over 200°. And that's due mostly to the friction of the belt. I'm speaking out of school but I don't believe the Snubshaft to be warmer than that?!?!

I'm debating it right now. Leaning towards no. If I change my mind I'll post it up.
This whole thing is very disappointing on so many levels.
If you decide to pull it, I'd throw some heat around the housing shaft, in hopes to loosen the grip on the knockout kit.

Well I only have a few minutes of run time on the stand so if this thing is is gonna cause potential problems I’d rather remove it before it fixes itself to my crankshaft lol
 
Was the one that is stuck on the crankshaft a 998 motor or 1049? The 1049 model (FX Nytro, later RS Vector, SR Viper models) is different than what is used on the 998.

How is this disappointing on so many levels? Is it the outrageously expensive price....?
I remain open minded to it unless it proves me wrong after racking up a bunch of miles on it.
If it doesn't work, so be it, I'm out $70 bucks. Whoop-de-doo. The sky isn't falling.
I appreciate the suppliers effort to address the annoying rattle.
