Mach Z not stock king of the lake.

This last weekend way up in northern MN I was standing out front of popular watering hole on Lake Vermillion watching a couple stock studded 850 Polaris Assault guys taking turns outrunning a new Mach Z. The Mack guy was a gluten for punishment. He couldn't believe he couldn't beat them in 1500-2000'.
Just for fun I challenged the Assault guys to see what they would say. It was a quick $25 to pay for my dinner. No contest - I thought they let off or stalled. They said they'd never been beat. Really?
I asked the Mack owner what his plan was and he said he's selling it right away.
Must have been a really sick Mach. I don't have a Mach but I do have a Renegade 900r X with the same engine. I walk away from all 850's no matter the brand. My 900r runs really strong and in a pretty long field I get my old Winder a couple lengths out of the hole and it can't catch me up to around 110 on the dreameter. I have no idea how they will be on a long lake because I haven't had a chance to run them that long.
We can all laugh and make fun of the Mach but if you are running a stock Winder don't get too cocky. Now if your Winder is tuned you can laugh all you want.:p

Maybe your old Winder is a pooch? It happens….

Maybe but I doubt it. It is totally stock except for a Dalton B/O secondary spring. I’m not surprised they run so close. They are both pretty close to 200 hp and my Doo is about 50 lbs lighter so my results make a lot more sense than what others are reporting.

The only reason we are talking about this is because Ski-doo put their foot in their mouth and called the Mach-Z the king of the lake.

Had they just introduced the 900r as a great trail sled, people wouldn't be having a field day. There is so much more to a snowmobile than top speed. The 900r is a great sled. The Doo marketing department did a real disservice to this package.

All good points. I didn't go for all the hype and that's why I didn't order a Mach. I just wanted a great trail sled with corner-to-corner speed and acceleration. I didn't need 194 HP since my old 165 HP 900 was enough. The problem is Doo only had the higher and lower HP 900 and eliminated the one in between. My wife has the 165 so there was no way I was ordering the one with less HP.
All that being said this 900r engine is by far the best engine I have ever had in a sled. It's so smooth and quiet and gets great MPG. I must have a good one because mine runs great and pulls like a freight train. I couldn't be happier with its performance. I was also very happy with the stock performance of my Winder and never felt the need to tune it up for more HP. I enjoy fast trail riding just as much as the next guy and if I'm not the fastest I don't care. Maybe that's why I ride Doo now.

You got a good one XP123! The other day I went to my secret testing grounds and encountered a father/son racing. The Dad had a 22 Renegade Turbo, while the son had a 22 doo 850. The 850 would pull ahead in the midrange and stay there.

After putting a hurting on his Dad while I watched, the lad was feeling pretty brazen and asked me if I wanted to line my SRX up with his 850? It didn't work out well for him.

I bet it didn't end well for him! He found out what it looked like to have a 40 MPH drive-a-way!

Stupid kids... I can just envision it, he had a backpack on his back with a shovel stuffed in it, a mohawk on his helmet, and he was standing on the running boards...

I should get me one of those Mohawks!

Those kids are the same where ever you go...like clones of each other.
You always hear them before you see them as they all run their so called "Race" cans [read "Slow" cans] and every time I see them I wonder why they even have seats on their sleds!
The only difference is that in Ontario they also have a small fishing rod dangling out of their back packs as they think that gives them a green light to ride the trails without a trail pass as they NEVER buy one.

Wait a minute Knapp....were you there? That's exactly how it happened!! Lol

You guys are gonna think I'm low down and dirty, but this is how it actually went down.....

When he asked to race, I replied, "Well, I've never raced anyone before, but I'd be curious to see how my sled stacks up against that big 850. I continued....since I don't have much racing experience, let's roll out out a little, and whenever you're ready, grab it, and I'll do the best I can to catch you."

After giving him a lengthy headstart, I fed the SRX a can of beans, and passed him like he was in reverse. At the end of the run he says, "Holy cow, Ive never been beaten like that. When you passed me, I literally felt the wind. What's it cost to make a sled fly like that?"

I think I converted another Doo guy!!

And what is with the whole constant wrapping the throttle when slowing down and going threw stop signs? Especially while other riders are present.. Never understood this EVER.. brap, brap, brap, brap, brap?? WTF does this do besides constantly grabbing the belt and releasing the belt?
:dunno:

HaHaHa, Well I know how your sled runs Glenn and I know how the 850 and the Machs run, and its literally a 40 MPH speed difference at least, so the outcome is pretty predictable...

I hope you told him it was stock off the showroom after all the other lies you feed him! Funny thing is the kid will still tell everyone he's never been beat still too. LOL!

They are clutched to pull wheelies, they need to brap it to keep moving forward

Picture an apex but 3 times as bad

Well, shame on me, but before the race, he asked, "Is that thing programmed?"

I replied, "No, this machine was not a program sled, I bought it brand new with 0 miles and I'm the only owner.". Haha......good times!!
