New track Chatter on SRX

Hey guys,

I installed a new cobra track on my SRX. Making an awful chatter noise when on the stand and when driving slowly.

Key points:

Correct track and pitch
Original sliders with 1200 miles on them.
Track is perfectly aligned
Skid measures square
Track tension is tight
Brake assembly and chaincase went back together smooth
Sled goes in reverse and back to drive without issue

Any ideas?

Sounds like the same noise my 19 ltx makes with that track, but, like you, I haven't pin pointed exactly where it's coming from.

Are you sure the left drivers(pto) is not to much on the inside(middle)of the sled? Its a common problem :-/. Rubbing against track clip. Normaly it need to move minimum 1/8 pto side. Chek yours

The left (clutch) side extrovert is definitely closer to the inside edge of the track windows in comparison to the right side (exhaust)

Maybe 5mm gap between the right side driver and inside of the window and 1mm or less from the left side extro driver to inside track window

Loosening the track on a 200hp sled is not a good solution in my opinion

I am 99%sure its your problem
From what i have seen the right one is spot on! The other one NEED to move.... pain in the #*$&@ job to doo:-(. Spray some wd-40 inside of the track while on the stand, sound should disappear

Seriously you can ride it like this, the ratcheting sound will disappear in a couple xxxmiles. But it's not perfect

Update...

I did loosen the track up a bit. I typically run my track banjo tight, so i set this one up the same... especially because it will stretch in the first few hundred miles.

Out of curiousity, i loosened the track so that it still was somewhat tight on the stand, but when i pushed the middle of the track down, it would leave a gap of about 1". I then re aligned it perfectly measuring from the outer rear axle wheel to the edge of the track... both sides measure 17mm.

The clatter noise has reduced by about 50%.

So i am left wondering if what you said is true Byam... the left side driver needs to be moves a few mm's toward the left to get it in the center of the window. The weird thing is that i measured the stock 1" ripsaw track i had on it and the distance between the windows is the exact same. That has me puzzled.

Also be sure it’s not your belt slipping. Others have found that out. I know If belt gets chunked you feel it in feet and sounds like a driveshaft bearing went.

You have a lot more traction so belt is possible but it wouldn’t be on stand. Sorry.

your studs aren’t tightened down enough. They are hitting the drivers and making that noise.

You think so? I used a torque wrench and tightened them to the woodys spec of 15'lbs or 180" lbs. should they be tighter?
