These type trails, like our northern Qc trips, all big trails....I never have belt issues. Its the local home trails here pounding the sled corner to corner that for me takes belts to their extreme.Don't forget all 3 of us "county bed runners" are tuned so if our issues get even moderately better then we've already gained assuming a tuned sled HAS to be harder on a belt then a stock sled.
For those that don't know what i call the "beds", they are straightaway after straightaway after straightaway that get groomed almost daily.
They are great proving & un-proving grounds for clutching & belts. Even the hills are fast.

Ya ok if you say so steve, but no pun intended, you were behind his butt some,right...lol steve what stage tune do you now have?Had breakfast with WINTERWOLF aka: JD at the Lakeview. This was my second "play-date" with a TY friend in a row.
Then i chased him up & down the "beds" for half the day.
We both did basically the same clutch fixes & both our clutches were luke warm after some very very long pulls.
That's a VERY good sign!
Tomorrow i'm going to "Bang the Belt" a little harder.
P.S 1 "Bang the Belt" is my new term for getting aggressive & actually see if the belt can handle a lot of on off throttle corner to corner type of riding.
P.S 2 Some of the "long pulls" were 120 speedo at 9000 rpm's for miles at a time
P.S 3 I like TY guys. It's kinda like when dogs sniff each others' butt then wag their tail in delight because they "know" each other.
P.S 4 There was NO ACTUAL butt sniffing in the County this week

My sentiments exactly Dan.
That's why i "Banged the Belt" today on the smaller local trails that were corner to corner blasts. Yesterday was a great day too just check temps at full speed for long pulls, but we ALL don't believe temps is the main issue.
BUT running A LOT cooler is a good step.
Snapping those clutches in & out was todays test.
MORE to COME FROM TODAY

Boys, i'm going to start a new thread since my clutch tests are not all about the Hurricane tool & i don't want to steal the thread with my antics.
I will start a new thread called "Steve verses the 8jP"

Apex has 160hp or so though, alot diff. The winder stock at 204hp is mostly good on belts too.
Dan
Well mine disintegrated at 400 miles and 1200 stock. Wasn't until I made some changes suggested here that I began to see results.

Well before leaving for a ride today, I checked things over and had to adjust belt deflection as belt was sitting too low in secondary. This is a first for me as the belt has so many miles on it that simple wear has narrowed the belt to the point that I had to add a washer to raise the belt. (Yippeeee) I have always blown them waaaay before they lose width requiring deflection adjustment.
Did many, many, many big pulls today to test new setup and belt still holding. Over 900 miles now and counting!!

900 miles on a FLEECER belt is like waking up over the age of 50 "pitching a tent".
Kind of a surprise, but if you tell your wife you dreamed about her, you might get lucky.
IN OTHER WORDS: IT's RARE!

Thanks for the kind words Steveo!! Lol
Probably worth mentioning is that in an effort to keep variables constant I've yet to lock the secondary. All these miles have been done utilizing a floating secondary like the factory intended.
I'm not implying that those of you locking the secondary are wrong, but merely stating my results. I feel my improved belt life is solely due to the Hurricane alignment bar.

This is good info.
How much float?
I didn't lock my float, but i had A LOT since day one using after market belt remover/adjusters.
I believe stock wasn't that much either. I had, if i recall, 4 to 8mm.

I never measured the amount of float, but I think you are about right with your numbers. The more the belt sinks into the secondary, the more float available.
If I can hit 1000 miles on this belt I'll start break dancing in the trail to celebrate!!
