That looks like cast aluminum and its likely some kind of preservative to prevent oxidation.

Well...it can't. I'd really like to know what it is? Sure don't look like a coating. It looks like a metallurgical reaction. Very spotty and inconsistent.Saw that too, but it's aluminum so how would it rust?

I noticed that too. I'd have to watch it again but it looks like it's not there when he started but showed up during disassembly. To me it looks like rusty water that dried. It appears to be on the plastic also.

I think you're right on, confused. To be honest....it was my poor attempt to cast another shadow on Skidoo products. Kinda like a smear campaign...Lol. Don't get me wrong, I would give the 900r some consideration, if not for the power of the 998turbo. after 7 seasons, I'm still in the honeymoon stage with my winder. Hahaha.... I will likely be on a 900R this season, after 5 seasons on a tuned Winder. I will be sure to offer my opinions good or bad. WOW! Don't even know what to say, other than I'm sure you'll like it. I mean other then power delivery. It would definitely be my first option if I was looking. I was only tuned last year, and was very impressed. Now with gear change & clutching, I'm expecting a very liner animal. I just don't think I could give it up.

Really afraid to say how fast it will need rebuilds. They couldn’t even say it’s on par with the 850… however my fav part was when they called it a novelty sled to their lineup

We will know a lot more in a couple months. This looks as though it deserved the Mach Z name more than the 900R they launched a couple years back.

I'm sure when they boost them up and they can't get long enough studs underneath they'll find out it's really bad.

One little statement in that video on the subject of using XPS vs 'other' mixes. "Don't put other fluid in it (paraphrase)", "The algorithm is going to de-rate because the ECU is going to detect it". Its probably just the way he said it. The ECU is only aware of outcomes. It would not know the difference between heat as induced by ambient temperature and heat produced by an inadequate/improper mix. If the temperature isn't coming down, it will de-rate but if the mix is doing the same job as XPS then it will likely happily keep injecting it. Let the XPS replacement snake oil wars begin..
As to longevity. I don't think there will be a lot of issues, or at least a lot more issues than there are in any 2-stroke. Is it likely that buyers of this sled are going to beat it to death.. some will for sure but there are a lot of (for instance) corvettes being driven around by people who have never found the floorboard with their right foot. Those guys that are are already beating their sleds up will treat this sled the same way and for them, rebuilds=bragging rights or at least war stories. For the average guy it will likely last as long as a normal 2-stroke which is somewhere between 0 and 15k miles meaning not a huge amount of difference. They (doos) are getting better based on anecdotal evidence as you are starting to see more recent model high mileage 2-strokes for sale whereas there used to be a practice of trying to kill the motor for warranty replacement before resell. A friend who is an occasional rider and likes 2-strokes is trying to buy a used one right now and all we see in the bargain bin is 10-18k Kms sleds (no thank you).
The comment about the model being a novelty is a cultural/language thing. When the Quebecers reference something as being a novelty it is more of a positive statement than the way a US english speaker would use that term (cheap or gimmicky).
The one thing you can probably say is that the ceiling is likely low as far as power upgrades go. A moderately upgraded (300+) winder is still going to be a very reliable machine. An 850 comp with 50% more horsepower than factory is not.
