Single tune. Boost gage reads 18.3-18.5 most of the time on hard pull.
holy crap.. thats why its was detonating.. their detonating protection sucks balls.

"270" Hurricane =~ 18 psi
TD Max "17" =~ 18 psi.
This sled was PEFI Stage 3.

My SW has and still does perform flawlessly but I am definately leaning towards installing a header so I can still make the same hp but with less boost to allow a bigger safety margin.

only on certain sleds with a certain tune. Doesn't seem to happen to stock sleds. This head gasket issue is starting to surface.

Maybe you found your smoking gun, the flash. Is this your sled TFlash? I am going back to stock on engine #4 I have seen enough...

Haha actually it is sort of funny... In all seriousness though, we may need a roll call of failed PEFI flashes. I have been nice to them but Tflash sled was immaculately prepped and if it failed then its the flash to blame. I am no stranger around maintenance and care either and I can't get it to run. I know of 3 PEFI sleds with blown head gaskets or severe motor damage. Add Tflash, and Mr Sled buddy. Not cool AT ALL!

This is one of the reasons I jumped on board with the 02 module kit as soon as it was released last fall from Hurricane.

Allot of variables here. But one seems to be Precision is very pricey IMO. I have compared them to others on packaging and they are way more. Anyone else notice this?

With the "91" I have in southern MN, the Stage PEFI will not work.
Today, I talked an engineer at VP Fuels. When he heard me say I'm trying to run 18 psi boost on 91 octane he said it will not work. He said it is on the razor's edge of disaster. Even low humidity on a single-digit night and running 1 mile WFO will burn it down. Maybe barely ok for short WOT bursts but not for longer pulls.

My sled dyno'ed 147 hp to the track, I should have known then it was too much boost. That is way more then '270' tune hp at the crank (more like 280/290).

This stuff on this post is whispering in my ear "powertrail it was flawless for 12k" K.I.S.S.

I have to ask, just how educated are you guys when it comes to forced induction? Honestly?
91 octane gas is barely adequate for 15 psi, and timing has to stay at a very conservative level to boot. Like 18° tops. Anything over that needs either much higher octane fuel or supplemental fueling such as methanol injection.
Don't instantly blame Yamaha/Mitsubishi for chitty detonation protection. You & the aftermarket "tuners" are the problem, not them.
A one size fits all approach with these custom tunes are laughable. It's a baseline. Without real time data via a logger or standalone device you have absolutely no idea what is happening.

My brother-in-law has a PEFI Stage 3 tune with Speedwerx straight-through 2.5" muffler. He had to replace all 3 pistons and his head casting this past fall due to detonation damage that happened last season. After many phone calls to Sebastian at PEFI and lots of testing of all of the systems that control boost & air/fuel ratio, it appears it is performing exactly as intended. He says that he rarely, if ever, saw the detonation light. At this point, he's chalking it up to bad 91-octane fuel from Michigan U.P. but I am second guessing that now that I am hearing about others with the same or similar issue. Seems like the detonation light should have lit up light a crazy if there was enough detonation to do that much damage. He has been using Boostane octane booster with every tank of 91-octane fuel now. He doesn't use it if he is able to fill with 93-octane (such as at home). I think has put on somewhere around 1400-1500 miles this season and it has been running well since the rebuild.

This is the exact reason I went with the Power Trail with CAI & 3" Super Quiet Muffler. My boost peaks at about 16.0-16.1 psi and settles sometimes to 15.8psi.
