10,000mi...15-1600 kms... like clock work the srx and red head stator checked out at that mileage... for me anyway, curious was this the case?....WAIT..... i know this is off topic , just wonderingI knew all along there would be plenty of performance to be had with these 2s turbos. But as we all know there’s no argument on the longevity of the engines when it comes to a 2s vs a 4s whether it has a turbo or not.
My good friend who is a die hard Yamaha guy and also still a two stroke guy. Well as we know Yamaha hasn’t made a 2s for years. He has one SRX with 25,000 miles, the other just turned 10k miles and a Viper S with just under 5k miles. All three are now down and he’s been very diligent on maintenance being he’s a retired machinist. I’ve been working on him to go 4s and maybe he finally will.
The 10,000 mile SRX just went down yesterday and he was towed home by an 850 Doo with 11,000 miles on it, go figure on that one?

Both SRX’s lost their cranks at 10k. His higher mileage one he gets it running good and then it mysteriously pops a cylinder. Believe me he’s been through the ringer with everything on them and he’s no dummy.

The Viper lost spark on the mag side, new plug wires, new CDI, new coils, new stator…nothing. I’m leaning on the wire harness.
Regardless it’s time for a Sidewinder , just wish he’d pull the trigger because I know the perfect sled for him and he keeps saying it too. Time to let the moth balls out of the wallet! LOL!!

I was at the Weenie Roast with a stock tune 998 beat every stock boost I raced and believe my friends stock Tcat did to, but we also lost to every tuned boost by a big margin! Quite the difference a tune makes on them

As for the 998 and Cat, I think the winds of change are coming

It’s still the king IMHO, it beats it stock and yes those tuned Boosts are fast but not so much on pump fuel.As for the 998 and Cat, I think the winds of change are coming
Lets see, now with Doo’s new 850 turbo we’ll have a true use for all the back packs. They can carry injection oil, Meth fluid and Octane booster.
Good grief!!
A couple of my retired friends that moved to their cabins In Wisconsin now put on 3000 plus miles a season. In 3 to 4 seasons you would have a 2 stroke with 10k plus miles. That’s nothing on a 4 stroke. Thanks but no thanks on these 2s turbos.
One of those friends of mine rides a 850 Doo, 2500 miles and 8 gallons of oil at $72/gal so far this season.

i am interested to see if the doo is the ecu that’s on the mach that is hard to hack.
It does have launch control. I don’t know but just a thought.
I also know the turbo is smaller than the poo so that is an issue.
The pump gas issue is back pressure and poo had a bigger turbo but opted for smaller because of quicker spool. Two stroke like big turbos and that’s a project over the summer.
There will be more to come and we all know that the 998 could have power bumped from factory.
Why did Polaris go to dyno tech and make 275 hp with a boost also
That’s interesting

Hey Bud, your on a 4 stroke forum jumping up and down about 2 stroke turbo sleds.
Most of us are over the 2 stroke thing.
Burnt pistons, crank bearings and cranks blowing, the stink of 2 stroke oil and the aditional cost of two stroke oil.
And don't forget about what is down stream.
Now throw the cost of a turbo with every engine blow up.

thanks for the clarification
I don’t care if it’s 2 or four stroke and what brand it is
I ride 1500 to 2000 miles a year
It’s fun for me to work on snowmobiles
I enjoy that part as much as riding them
It’s not my job and it’s peace away from my job
Sometimes facts are hard to swallow and I get it.
I know where there is a 900r that destroys most 998s out there but there’s not a lot of them.
They are out there
I know that given the same parts on a 998 a tuner will do better than someone that buys and bolts on parts also.
I don’t have the fastest boost in the world nor did I have the fastest 998 or 1100
I do know how to make them fast and I continue to learn and that’s really what it’s all about. This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s what happens on the lake
If you’re going to talk smack you can also receive it
I can but I will also defend myself
enjoy your sled
You said you don’t drag race and you trail ride. I drag race my trail rider and to each their own.
I see all of your modifications you listed
and it’s good you rely on Polaris to keep the sled starting! Lol
As far as chassis go and how they hold up
They are tested in cross country racing. Hp on a railroad grade in Munising doesn’t equal the beating a 600 goes through in the i500 or most cross country racing. I think skidoo poo and cat all have pretty good sleds in that dept. I raced for cat for some years and that is brutal
