The Sidewinder is a great sled but it's not for everyone. For myself and the type of riding I do, its way too expensive, too heavy 40-50 lbs more than the Viper and too hard on fuel and belts. We're not all looking for the same sled. There is alot of room for another sled below the Sidewinder.150-160 hp, $14-15 000 and good fuel mileage is the sled I'm looking for.Right now the closest thing from Yamaha is the Viper, outside Yamaha it's the Etech.

Ok why does everyone think that this new so called SRX will not be faster than the SIDEWINDER? Think about this for a minute it will be lower to the ground with different gearing and clutching, probably a lighter track and a hotter ecu that kinda stuff right there will make it 4 to 5 mph faster. There is no way Yamaha is going to put SRX on the side of this thing and play second fiddle to the SIDEWINDER. I also don't understand all you guys that want a 150 to 160 hp machine VIPER is 130hp and the SIDEWINDER is 190hp is there a real need for something in between. Good or bad the APEX has sailed and so has the 998 4 cyl and I don't think that YAMAHA will ever go back to a 2 stroke. If they use the 3cyl 998 in n.a. form it will take a lot of tweaking to run with the 1049. I personally don't see a need for another machine in the 150 hp spot, everybody complained that they wanted something different from their APEX Yamaha steps up and now everyone wants there APEX back. I know these new machines are not a 100% Yamaha but they are improving each year. I hate to say it but the new doo turbo with 150hp might be something some of you guys would like if the VIPER or SIDEWINDER is not your cup of tee. I guess 130hp is not enough 190hp is to much and 150 is just right. To bad some performance company cant find a way to de tune the SIDEWINDERS ecu and get ya your 150 ponies.
Guess again don't want turbo! Only the people who bought the Apex for the wrong reason wanted something different. Those still riding their Apexs still want their Apex. I want to see a 150 160hp NA Apex engine in a Cat chassis, that would be better then a 1049 or a Sidewinder! But interesting that so far no one is hitting on the Yamaha patent for a jackshaft driven supercharger. Id take one of those on a 998 4 banger in a heartbeat and stock for stock it would rival with ease the SW or TC!

So true! You can poke around following a club groomer, or suck the yellow paint off, ok, trail signs...lol....allowing your thumb to choose speed and fuel mileage...10 to 16.I agree. The sidewinder is such a smooth tame power delivery. I think people that never rode them have some sort of fear that it is just going to be a handful to ride because its 200 hp with the turbo. The power curve is so linear it is an absolute joy to ride at nearly any trail pace desired.

Well, i can tell you this. This is honest life right here.
I have 3 Doo friends & 1 Poo guy.
After i towed 1 Doo friend twice last year for motor issues, and after he spent a day on an 850 & my 'Winder, he bought a Sidewinder.
After my Poo friend chased my Apex for 7 years with NO problems & i towed him with a blown engine, he bought an '07 Apex GT.
My other die hard Doo friend is mad at me for swapping sleds with him, now he's second guessing his choices in life.
My 850 friend is EXTREMELY impressed with my Yamaha's i've had throughout. My Apex is side by side with him or even pulls him by a few. Much to everyone's dismay.
That 850 is a very nice sled with great options & accessories. Something Yamaha is seriously lacking. BUT, so far everyone around is WAAAAY more impressed my 'Winder especially in the nasties.
850 blew a belt at 2000 miles. That has always been the mark to change the belt on a Doo.
There are some here that don't like the Arctic Cat DNA & i must admit it makes me wonder also.
BUT nothing compares on the 2 hours of washboard trails we hit the other day to this Sidewinder.......

The sw does engage so slow I can walk alongside backing it up into the garage, while the apex needs the throttle feathered....the sw now takes bumps very well...have yet to bottom out, and I've tried. Apex handles flatter and steers easier, but that's from years of tweaking too, and you can sit back, sit forward (wrp seat/risers) and it's pretty much the same. The sw requires more body English from the rider, and works best sitting where it wants you to sit.
Always liked the vector engines (either chassis) as you could go fast in the woods with the not so powerful as the apex, engine, but the sw can do the same down low...amazingly easy to ride, and has far greater traction than my 121 apex, but thats due to the 137 and cat chassis. The sw flies amazingly flat and I find myself jumping it a lot, while the apex nose pops up taking a hit with the rear, which I prefer on that chassis. Two totally different animals. Build quality? No contest. No bolts ever fell out of the apex. Oil tank leaked over time, 3rd set of donuts, and belt life is crazy long. No other issues in 7000 miles. Oh, all the front bushings replaced, and 2 broken 13mm aftermarket swaybars..not the sleds fault.
Apex is rock solid sled. Hopefully the sw will be too.
Then again, I screw up my posts so what the hell do I know!!LOL

I always respected cats enthusiasm, race sleds and attitude, but their quality control was spotty at best. One F7 runs perfect...the next one catches fire from poorly routed fuel lines while in having a burger.....stuff like that...lolWell, i can tell you this. This is honest life right here.

I don't think the marketing fits the Vector.

After all this reading I'm going to take one guess. I'm going to guess a new SRX with an Apex engine in a new cat chassis.

My guess is a Sidewinder SRX edition. In a new chassis. New suspension. Hopefully power steering and the chassis damper.
Shoot in the dark. We will find out soon enough.
