Asphalt Results 2005

Don - I am stock gearing right now, and that 1/8 mile is the quickest for my RX1 at 6.72

I tried the 23/38, but ran out of gear with the nitrous on.

Best time with the stock skid was a 10.998 in 2003

I will be racing at Union Grove tomorrow (Sat.) if there is anybody that is going, they will get to see a lot of stuff. Bracket racing, jets, top alcohol F/C, 7 & 8 second street cars, "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, and Jeff Simon's 7 second sled.

Jeff, you still coming down?

Well, here we go:

Union Grove 9/3/05 - temp was 82° with a slight headwind. 36% humidity.

We only got 1 time run, and it was bad.
Lane 1 (reaction time was -.066)
1.496 60ft
4.343 330ft
6.868 660ft @ 95.98mph
9.137 1000ft
11.109 1/4 @ 112.90mph

I went back to the pits and tightened the rear shock to transfer less.

1st round (reaction time was .155) lost 1st round
1.531 60ft
4.424 330ft
6.973 660ft @ 107.28mph
9.251 1000ft
11.223 1/4 @ 114.28mph

(if I ran that fast at my 1/8, I should have run a mid "9") what a joke.

All in all, had a blast!
Talked to "Big Daddy" Don Garlits, and grabbed Jeff Simons to show him the smell of Nitro-Methane and rubber mix. He had never heard a nitro car fire up in real life. Saw the alcohol funny cars, nitro altereds, chicago wise guys, and jets running 299mph.

Jeff, great talking to you, and will see you soon.

Terry

Well finally got out to Gimli Motorsports park and gotta say, they've done a great job. The return lane could use some improvement along with a couple of other minor things that will come once they have a little more experience. Track is smooth and hookup was great. The sled ran great got some consistency out of it, the driver however needs a tune up!!!! Had head winds both days, approx, 20km/hr on Sunday and 10 to 15 on Monday with fairly high humidity on Monday. Temp was around 25c or so. I didn’t track it which I should have. Next time I’ll get my crew chief to track that.

Not bad for the second time out this year! Have to tweak some more, revs on high boost at around 11800. Figure I should be able to get into the 9’s with a little tweaking and the right weather conditions. If I were to get an asphalt skid, I think I’d be in the 9’s for sure, anyone got a good used one, cheap?

working on my install. 2.5 hours in. Reverse removed, gearing changed, sled dis-assmebled, electrical spliced, fuel system replaced.....

;)! :tg:

What are you doing to it Monker?

Good going Don, getting it dialed in I see.

Monker, interesting, doing it yourself? Take some pics and post them, K. What kind of gearing you going with? I'd like to see how that thing goes in.

Terry, it helps when you get out and make some runs. I was really hoping to be in the 9's by now, getting close.

Don, just enjoying the use of the sled makes it worth having it.

Tyler, I have the nitrous all installed on the SRX Magic Ride, and will be testing it tonight. No big numbers, just checking clutching rpm, fuel flow, EGT's, and traction.

I bought a new bottle of track-bite, and will be scrubbing the track before I run. Have my friends 660 raptor, to wheel it around, so hope it works. I brought the suspension back to where you had it, and put some weight in the clutch.

Will post pics on Sunday or Monday.

I will post results a little later, but if you look at my profile, it was changed.

Friday 9/9/05 82° and went down to 62° with humidity pegged!

Have the NOS finished on the SRXMAGIC ride now, and tried it Friday night. Changed timing, gearing, and clutch weight to componsate for the NOS. Couldn't run it due to a slight popping, when engaged. Fuel jet for the nitrous was too small, and didn't have the next size.

1st run SRX
1.484 60ft - 6.450 1/8mile @ 105.375mph - 10.342 1/4mile @ 122.699mph

2nd run SRX
1.508 60ft - 6.467 1/8mile @ 105.496mph - 10.326 1/4mile @ 123.938mph

Here is the good stuff! 05 RX1 ran in the 9's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put in Monker's clutching last weekend for the race at Union Grove, WI., and thought I would try it with the Nitrous.

1st run
1.483 60ft - 6.444 1/8mile @ 110.388mph - 10.110 1/4mile @ 130.456mph

2nd run - put 3 thin washers on tip of Monker's setup
1.494 60ft - 6.269 1/8mile @ 111.281mph - 9.916 1/4mile @ 130.396mph

3rd run - same as 2nd
1.491 60ft - 6.252 1/8mile @ 110.899mph - 9.920 1/4mile @ 130.110mph

Finally, a 9 second run, and a 9 to back it up!

This is a 05 RX1 with stock airbox, jetting, engine, gearing, ignition, and all items to make it a trail sled, with the add-ons of Holtzman carb springs & nitrous system, White Knuckle Performance exhaust, Wahl Brothers asphalt skid, and HH clutching with clutching tips from Monker (Corey).

Thanks goes to all involved!

White Knuckle Performance, The Speed Shop, Totallyamaha, Wahl Brothers Racing, E-Z Off Slide Guides, Anshutz Motorsports, Holtzman Engineering, RPM Speed & Custom, and Port Yamaha.
