^^^^I was referring to the amount you torqued the wedge with that much wear. Granted that different bearings are probly going to require a different amount of torque. Apologies if you just torqued the wedge by feel.
It was a lot. 12” ratchet about as hard as I could go with one hand. Never felt like threads of wedge were letting loose and they still look great.^^^^I was referring to the amount you torqued the wedge with that much wear. This one in Viper cant be saved unless welded. Worst wear to date I have had and of course in a hurry. Riding tomorrow. Late night last night!

Thought you had put a wedge in a little while back? You know, the one that you had to get really tight with a 12" ratchet? That's from your Viper?

Is the wear on these hollowshafts happening because they are hollow or is bearing seizure causing this? Interested because I am thinking of switching to the Rider Forward Cat design.

Thanks. That is either some poor engineering. Or bad machining. Bearing or shaft? Should not be happening on machines of this cost.

Agreed. All that is required is a longer inner race with a lock collar or set screws. A simple fix by the manufacturer but they refuse to change the shitty design

OK, here's a good story to go with this "Bearing "issue".
I put "Bearing Issue" in quotes because some people still insist it's cuz we're tuned, or studded, or we ride too hard or not EVERYONE has this issue.
I went to the local Cat dealer down the street a few weeks ago. I'm friends with owner & getting to know the mechanics. This is their 2nd year in business selling Cats so they are just starting to see the issues.
I inquired about the problems WE have that last year he said they don't have.
Then he said he does have a bearing that went bad on a ProCross that was sloppy, blaming the bearing.
I went out back with him & it's the SAME problem we are facing here. He thought it was an isolated issue, but i had him look at all the others up on stands.
We found 3 more with loose bearings.
There were only 3 more sleds up on stands!
The owner came out & was puzzled what to do. I showed him the BOP McWedgy tool & he may purchase a batch from him to put on all his sleds.
That sled had less then 3000 miles & is driven by a 70 year old man that fouls plugs because he rides so slow.
This shows that this is not just us Yamaha guys BITCHIN'!
It's NOT because we ride like animals or run big tunes or whatever else the NAYSAYERS say because they are the same ignorant people that say they don't have top gear issues either.
P.S: If I'm going to be an Animal i'd like to think i'd be compared to a Cheetah although most compare me to a HUMMINGBIRD on CRACK

How did you check bearings with it just being on a stand? Did you just reach up into the skid and grab the drive shaft?

So after reading all of this. Travis fix is great idea! But does the aftermarket make a solid shaft yet? Titanium etc. less rotating mass. I put a lighter clutch on my old modified Cat. It did make a difference. I geuss I should stop bithching about my Slingshot issues and deal with it. This is sad to see. Because I was getting very interested in the Procross ride advantages. From what everybody on here said about the better ride quality. But this is even worse than what I am dealing with. My Wife even told me today she likes the new Viper Orange and Blue version. We all know how important looks are to the Ladies. I like the Red one myself. LOL!

We don't mean to scare you.
Just buy the BOP adjuster & all is well.
Hurricane sells a shaft made by Black Diamond, but nobody has chimed in about it yet.

They were changing tracks & the rotors were off at that time
