Barn of Parts Driveshaft Saver....Bearing Lock

603 comments, wow this must be the fix, or is it? Come on man, tighten, loosen ,push in push out grease ,silicon, lock tite, beer ,Ya I’ll buy one must work!!!

Put mine on t0 38 ft lbs. Greased it and tapped it all the way in. No real play in the rotor but it was pretty tight before (brand new machine) and no vibration in the tunnel when braking. I sleep through the night knowing I have it in there which makes it worth every penny. Travis' solution seems to be better than what others have tried or brought to the table so far. Plus he is reachable if you need him and knows his sh**.

Installed mine recently. Shaft and bearing in good shape with approx 3K miles. Torqued to 35 lbs with enough protruding to maintain wrench access, still had some play in the rotor. Last season of warranty for me so I’ll pull it apart in the spring and inspect.

2020 SRX (2) , Added wedge , put in flush, 40 ft lbs , greased with Amsoil , grease now has come out covered clutchs , slipping ! Will clean up all parts put only never sieze on threads ! 2100 km , Note to self , less grease is better !

I've got a question, which I apologize if it's been covered, but are ALL ProCross chassis having this problem?

Meaning, all Arctic Cats since 2012? Or has something changed in design to fit the Yamaha 4s engines??

IMO, ALL. I just fixed a 2014 XF8000 - same problem. Shaft and bearing toast. Some sleds seem to experience it worse than others. HOW did Cat engineers think the design was ever going to work - not having the shaft and bearings attached to each other somehow?!

Yes. All ProCross drive shaft bearings are an interference fit with no locking collar. Pretty safe to say all will spin given time.
The main problem child is the clutch side. Higher horse power seems to amplify the rate the shaft spins on the bearing.
Both of our ZR6000's have the wedge. Just makes sense to lock the bearing.

Technically, it's really not an interference fit - it's a slip fit. Usual clearance between new shaft and new bearing is about .001".

Well, in that case, I kinda hope AC goes tits up. It would serve them right. To be sticking it in the A$$ of the consumer for almost 10 years on a BS failed design.

And Yamaha..... SHAME on you for laying in bed with this stinking pile of $hit, and ignoring it like it's gonna clean itself up.

To make matters even worse, the shafts are on back-order until Feb-March (including for those sleds still under warranty)!! Lots of guys are having to get them welded up and turned down in order to get sled back together!
Lastly, IF nothing is done to "fix" the real problem when the sled is put back together, it will happen again, and again!!

Quick tech tip on these.....go easy on the grease. Just got some feedback from a customer this morning. He advised me that he put a few pumps of grease on his before installing which was too much as he ended up with lube on his clutches and belt guard after this weekend's riding. Just use your finger to smear the grease on. Don't pump it full of grease. We just want a light film on the contact areas.

Cat 800 rr waited to long and paid dearly. 3hrs back and forth trying to get disc off which was mangled by the bearing spinning. Yes Cat has the issue too.

Did you discover this while inspecting for preventative maintenance? Or was there a tell tale, like vibration or sound, that inspired you to check?
