Getting rid of the roll over valve

Yeah, I guess you guys don't roll them over that often in the mid-west eh Tom! Out west we do it on purpose, it's actually easier to get them unstuck by rolling them over;-)

Ya, I dont want them upside down and it would make my stomach turn to do that to get it unstuck..LOL

This weekend my sled ended up on its right side in a washout that went down a two track forest road. It was filled in with snow and never saw it.
It shut down from no oil pressure from being on its side. No oil ran out hose. All was good after getting it upright again once oil pressure came back.

I saw at least 3 sleds rolled on purpose sat. No issues with any. Trick is warm sled and shut it off asap. Which means a Tether minimum. 4st Solutions Rollover valve maximum protection. Or get a 2st

In all the years since I've done this venting on this sled, I've never had it freeze up. I'm actually running my old original hardware store clear reinforced hose

There are some things I've learned along the way however.

1. Heater hose is not designed for oil and can't be used. It turns into a oily gooey mess of a hose.
2. 1/2" hose is more prone to freezing or attempting to freeze vs. a 5/8" hose.
3. The hose IMO needs a rearward angle cut into the bottom of it so if running in deep snow the snow makes no attempt to enter the hose.

I bypassed my rov on Saturday and after the first ride of 6 miles when i looked a it there was an ice ball froze to the bottom of the hose this was in 2' of powder, then the next day after 12 miles of trail riding it was clogged with ice again, i left the hose a couple of inches below the tunnel, maybe i'll cut it flush with the tunnel and see what happens, seems like were gonna have keep an eye on this all the time

yep. Cut it a little closer to the running board so it’s not acting like a scratcher diverting snow upwards

Only check how much slime it catch up. Soon I will remove the bottle.

Cut bypass hose off at an angle with the long end forward. My experience shows less likely to collect ice/snow.

Needs a sharp angle cut, this allows for a much longer open area, make sure opening it faced rearward, also a tiny slit above there where more heat is inside hood, just incase. I would clean off any ice chunks from tip when they would build, this usually is only when riding in deeper powder.

For those who are having issues are you noticing moisture in your oil level hose?

Did mine last week. Rode hard packed trail in minus 25c for 150kms. I get a bit of ice build up on outside front of hose but none inside. Hose is warm to touch below running board with sled running. Only water vapour appears to be coming out but smells a bit oily. No oil sludge residue evident so far inside hose and no drip of oil on floor after sitting for a couple days. Got 400kms so far no issues. I was fed up with oil in air box, charge tube and mostly running down under the clutch. I would imagine that some oil would eventually make it to clutch. My set is same as ROCKERDAN. I left the existing hose and just capped the end at the tank for now.

Weird, I would have thought excess moisture in the oil would be causing the issue.
I run an oil additive / never see any moisture in the tube / never had an issue even in very cold weather
