Viper Cross-Shaft shears...

Few more have broken this shaft this year. Shame. Buddy just looked at his 800 cat with QS3. Shaft is bent with 2000mi on it. I found this today also. Could be used to fix a tunnel which bolts ripped out or cracked if you don't want to fab one yourself.

These front arm reinforcement bracket might be a good idea for my xtx/146" conversion, if I need to drill that lower hole for the skid arms, if not should be good cheap insurance.

My shaft didn't break but my front arm wound up in pieces

Thats also common. Just under 5000 miles on mine and i had to weld it this summer.
at the end of this season i will see how it held up. If it breaks again i will just buy a new one and reinforce it in multiple places before i reinstall it

I noticed cracks in my front arm when I had the skid out. They were in the same places that yours broke. I ordered a new arm from my dealer and he order one for the 14 LTX and one for a 16 LTX. The 16 one is much thicker. I will be putting the 16 arm in my 14.

Hey I know that sled! Can you take some pics of the two before you put on?

I will try to remember to grab some pics tomorrow. Any tips or advice on whether or not I should powdercoat my rails? I would like to get them done when I have the arm done but I have heard that it weakens them. Blue rails are on back-order. I should have just got the red ones.

Hopefully I can get myself and my sled to the UP sometime this year to ride with you guys again.

Hope so too or maybe closer if snow comes finally! Happy New Year!

I think if they bead or sandblast them to remove old coating that’s what weakens them. Get some good aircraft stripper and do that part yourself.

I've joined the club, didn't tear my cross shaft but after hitting a few unexpected very large bumps at high speed I broke the weld on the arm that floats on the cross shaft. I will be making a warranty claim and upgrading to RR components.

This thread was extreamly helpful. Thanks for sharing cannondale

I wonder if the 16 arm is stronger and will it fit a 14 or 15 Rtx? There was a change in arm length 16 or 17 on RTX. Is a lot of people contributed to this one. Glad it helped rbell14

Here is complete RR shaft. Stronger bigger design. Those bushings on end are same dimensions other than the flange is thinner. They also are machined rather than powdered metal like stockers. I would imagine the RTX LE is same thing. Didnt have one on hand to check so all I have are Cat part #'s

8408-051=Bolts 2 needed
3604-791=Bushing 2 needed
3604-711=Front Arm axle 1 needed
3604-798=Center Shock Axle steel 1 needed

These are what I believe are the equivalent Yamaha Parts
8KN-G7465-00-00 = FRONT ARM AXLE 1 NEEDED
8KN-RA1A0-00-00 = BOLTS 2 NEEDED
8KN-RA805-00-00 = BUSHING 2 NEEDED
8KN-RA729-00-00 = CENTER SHOCK AXLE STEEL 1 NEEDED

Do all those parts fit a RTX SE? When I reviewed with dealer they all said the Yamaha parts were for RTX LE. I'd assume they will fit both.

Like this?
This is pathetic. My monoshock suspension in my apex held up better than this.

exactly how mine broke last week only on opposite corners from yours. Warranty covered it. Actual part online is $166 complete with bushings and grease...

mine broke on a tremendously hard hit, I'm not surprised but these shouldn't break with just average trail bumps.

My replacement look to be the same, I could not tell if they made any mods to welds, gusset's or tube diameter. Looks like stock replacement to me.

I have yes warranty for 5 years coverage so mine is still under warranty.
My issue is that i have very limited time to ride this year because of an illness with my mom. At the moment i am doing day trips, 4+ hours each way.
I made the choice to just bring the sled home, buy the part, get it next day air to me and fix it myself.
It happened on sunday, My dealer is closed on mondays. So i would have to drop it off tuesday after work, then wait on the warranty repair. That can take weeks that i dont have.
I cant even put into words how frustrating this is.
I keep buying rtx models because they are supposed to be rough trail. 5000 miles and this thing snaps like a twig.
I can see already this suspension is going to take as much work, if not more than the apex monoshock. Thats incredibly disapointing.
