The 1100 Anvil motor as I call it is a beast. I run about 26 pounds of boost at about 300hp on pump gas. Head studs are the only thing needed at that level. My mod stock turbo is capable of a lot more boost but I would be hesitant to run more than 315 - 325HP without visiting the internals of the engine. If you upgrade the internals, there are guys running 400 - 500hp or perhaps more out of this engine. Software is easy to obtain because the ECU is Suzuki based.I never knew the specific numbers but yes I had heard the Suzuki 1100 could take big time boost. Stands to reason why that’s what seems to be winning the outlaw class at the grass drags and such.
I learned something here though, I did think the Apex could take more boost without internal work back from a conversation I had in person with big Jim from OSP when he was still around. Thanks for the clarification.
As for the 1200, it must be the partnership with Petrona that Ski Doo (BRP) went a different direction which is too bad.

I know Big Jim McKeown (owner of OSP) has been gone awhile now but he told me at a Yamaha show in Minneapolis that at that time he was pulling 725 out of his full race Apex motors. I asked how much internal work and he said very little if any. That’s just what he told me whether he was correct or not??In full blown outlaw, I heard the 1100 produces around 700hp...

Something about those 1100's sound so thumping cool when the roll by at slower speeds, nothing like it on the snow. I love my 998, but the way some of those big twins make the ground rumble is so cool.

Yep, the original and first ProLine turbo 1000 open mod dirt digger of Johns. Jeff built the engine and turbo system, John built the chassis and put it all together, I initially drove it in testing and tuned it on the test track, then we got John acclimated to riding it while I tuned. We were using tiny turbos back then compared to what the outlaw sleds are running now. In fact, lakercr and I were reminiscing about it just this last week. That sled would lay it down when we wicked it up, but we had to be careful not to wick it up too much as everyone was bitching about it the way it was. I believe John clocked a high 3.80 pass on the grass after we wicked it up a bit up in Canada. We were testing here at home on a "lesser than" test track, when going up to Canada, the whole track was prepped really good and it hooked much better than when on our test track. Had I known the track was going to be that good, I would have toned it down a bit, but I stayed home when the rest of the gang went up. We ended up having a hot tuneup in for the good track. The competition really bitched after that. Big Jim was calling me to get info on our tune-up because it ran so well.
Things have gotten outta hand in the Outlaw class since, and only the big money guys can run that class now with the big HP being produced. Comes down to cubic dollars.

I dont remember what it weighed, but it was a lot compared to what we had been running, and didn't make much for power. We didn't dyno it but I'd guess we started with it at about 340 HP or so, then installed a larger turbo and could wick it up somewhere around 400 HP but we kept the boost around only to 20 lbs so it wasn't much for HP and it was an actual trail turbo when we started with it. The later version GNS Apex fuel injected version made more power the next season after I was able to talk Greg from GNS into actually putting some ignition timing in it. We still had to be careful not to go too fast because everyone was trying to get rid of it and thrown out of the class, but more an more were being built, so the class started to grow, but it created much controversy of course. I was always amazed that the Outlaws that came around later really didn't go that much quicker, the HP they were claiming was a whole bunch more than we were running back in the day.

There are a bunch of flippers making money on C8 corvettes, maybe you should have ordered one of those. I was offered 25 grand more for mine after I took delivery of it. I declined because I wanted a C8 not a money maker.

This last weekend way up in northern MN I was standing out front of popular watering hole on Lake Vermillion watching a couple stock studded 850 Polaris Assault guys taking turns outrunning a new Mach Z. The Mack guy was a gluten for punishment. He couldn't believe he couldn't beat them in 1500-2000'.
Just for fun I challenged the Assault guys to see what they would say. It was a quick $25 to pay for my dinner. No contest - I thought they let off or stalled. They said they'd never been beat. Really?
I asked the Mack owner what his plan was and he said he's selling it right away.
