Sidewinder upper gear with oiling hole?

Hyvo is a style of gear and chain...

Cat gears are sintered...or powdered metal...which are the material that has failed in the past..

not sure other than taylor who else offer billet...but that's the important gear..

At $15 and less than a hour just replace every 1000 miles. That doesn't prevent catastrophic failure tho.

The issue if I understand correctly is not the gear, and has not been the issue for a few model years.

I thought this thread was about the bushing wearing around 5k miles or less. And so the oil hole was introduced for 18.

Are you guys who are talking about old cat gears with issues saying there are 17/18 models with gears that have gone bad due to sintered cheap materials? I just think the thread may be veering off the original topic unless I've missed something.

It seems from what I heard the 17s may not have had the drilled hole, and due to bushings wearing early(ish) they drilled them out for 18. But may or may not have drilled them all the way thru(the bushing) which seems like they missed a key point when pressing in the bushings.

This is the gear off my 17. 5300 miles.

There is no hole in my gear. Not just the bushing the gear doesn't even have a hole.

The bush fits very loose on the shaft it looks pretty bad
Im thinking if guys cannot touch them with drill, they must be pretty decent hardened material. So you confirm the 17s did not have oil hole, and this is same as info from speedwerx I got. 18s got the hole, but should be drilled thru bushing IMO.

17's did not have oiling holes and SOME 18's (I'm guessing early builds) also do not have oiling holes.

I see the YAM fiche has made the 17 top gear number obsolete and gets updated to the new 18 number now.

The cat fiche shows a new part number for 18s too. The cat part number shows BW(Borg Warner) as being manufacturer and confirmed on several sites. Are you guys saying that cat and yam use different manufacturers for their gears? The YAM part numbers I have looked up dont say anything on them. It would be nice to see if the numbers stamped on the gears are similar from cat(BW) to the yam gears. I would think they are all made by BW and of same quality from yam to cat. Both brands added the oil hole for 18s.

Also the Sidewinder gears were said to be Billet. Not Sintered. Look closer. Sintered will be smooth on all surfaces no machining.

After taking my charge, they now tell me its backordered...grrrr

Anyone got any other ideas for 22 with the oil hole? Dont think there is any Yam part number for a 22 that I know of.

Speedwerx same thing...Just talked to them, they said same time frame. Sounds like these are new for this season and not even made yet.

Guess Ill just run my 22 without oil hole for this season if I want to radar, grab one of these later.

What is the part number on that cat gear in your picture ?
I've put 320 plus hp with anti lag on the grass to the 2017 cat gears all summer with no issues. I've seen a bunch of Yamaha gears and most were drilled but not one through the bushing.

The old rexnord gears cat used before the Borg Warners were junk. Blew one of those to pieces on the grass this summer with hard hookup, made a heck of a mess.

For the price of these new top gears I'd replace them every year.

Right now I believe their on back order, my dealer said February for the 22t with or without oil hole.

Joe ltx-Le can tell you that. Only thing wrong with original was bushing. That gear from Cat looked very different so obviously it was changed for a reason so he decided to just swap the bushings using a OSP secondary adjuster. Genious! He may be riding otherwise pm him.
