Sidewinder upper gear with oiling hole?

When the sled is moving at speed everything in the case should be getting plenty of oil. I can't see that hole making any difference.

The 21t gear i took out of my SW had no hole in it ,bushing looks good ,and has over 2200 miles on it .Put in a 22 for the added power .

Funny maybe, but 4 would allow for mo oil passage.

Correct, and at a min one if not two holes would always be upward to allow just a weee bit of oil to settle into the bushing in case someone decides to throw it in reverse and reverse out of somewhere after the machine has been sitting for a while when you really need the "oil to be there".

Seen a Yamaha 21T today with 3 holes and none of them drilled through the bushing.

I tried to drill a few holes in that gear tonight. I cant find a bit that will touch it.........

Yeah I’m sure they hardened. It baffles me why they are even there in the first place if the bushing isn’t drilled.

This is the gear off my 17. 5300 miles.

There is no hole in my gear. Not just the bushing the gear doesn't even have a hole.

The bush fits very loose on the shaft it looks pretty bad

Exactly why I tell everyone to replace that bushing, its cheap. Cheaper than the possibility of skipping out of gear and trashing your 2 top gears and ruining your day. Back in 2012/2013 was good for 2500 miles, now its closer to 5000. Super easy to do if you already have cover off chaincase. Bushing can be hard to find separate but you can buy the cheapest 2012 top gear from cat for around $20. Press bushing out and install in your existing gear. There not that tight in there either.
