I updated the image. It's weird because it is almost like it is pitted a bit where you'd expect it to be smooth. You can see the lip I mentioned on the inside as well.

Get a new one under warranty. They came good for mine.
That shaft is badly worn. The driveshaft saver is not going fix one that bad.I updated the image. It's weird because it is almost like it is pitted a bit where you'd expect it to be smooth. You can see the lip I mentioned on the inside as well.

At first the pitting would lead me to believe its not too bad - but that ridge on the side shows the wear.
Press the bearing out of the caliper housing and slap it on - and see how sloppy it is.

I agree it will only take up the fitment on a new shaft and bearing tolerance it will not work on a warn shaft. I have tried on a warn axle like that and it will only expand a few tho in that area.

Mine is in right now getting a new shaft under warranty. 1,500 miles and I could rock the bearing back and forth on the shaft.
I'll be adding the shaft saver this fall.

Good to know. We'll get it warrantied and then get a shaft saver in there.I agree it will only take up the fitment on a new shaft and bearing tolerance it will not work on a warn shaft. I have tried on a warn axle like that and it will only expand a few tho in that area.

With all these shafts getting warranted by YAM, I would hope the beancounters will tell the engineers we need a FIX finally for this problem!
Maybe 2021 will finally bring actual fixes??? Grrrrr

Agree. I just got mine back last Saturday with new shaft and bearings etc. You would think Yamaha would step up and address this issue with the number of failures occurring on $15,000 sleds. I'm interested to see where we are in two/three years with the folks that dimpled the shaft and used loctite and how it holds up.

Curious why this issue isn't discussed in any Cat forums ? Same components .... maybe the Cats assembled with Loctite.......... or not as prevalent of an issue with the Cats ???

My thoughts exactly. They're built in the same plant, right? ProCross chassis is a ProCross chassis.Curious why this issue isn't discussed in any Cat forums ? Same components .... maybe the Cats assembled with Loctite.......... or not as prevalent of an issue with the Cats ???
Subject has never even come up on ArcticChat. Many sleds well over 10,000 miles and all is good.
I have a feeling the spinning drive shaft is more isolated than this forum portrays.
However, I did get this kit for added piece of mind. My drive shafts are fine.
One at 4500 miles, the other 2200 miles.
I may just install the kit, torque to 35tlbs, which seems to be the sweet spot, and ride. We'll see.
Final inspection coming up this weekend.
I haven’t seen a driveshaft break off from this issue or even that drive bearing fail. Ever. But I have seen many that have wore. Both Cat and Yamaha. Some that weren’t. Buddies 7000 has no wear with 9000mi. My 800 wore bad and buddies 1100 Turbo. It’s talked about but I think many just ride. It’s not in me to have driveshaft slopping around. Just not right so that’s why it has to be fixed. Some people just fix a issue and forget about it. I believe that’s the case with many. Whether cat or Yamaha. But we are used to a mercedes sled now we have a Ford. Fast wicked suspension and handling but it’s not a Mercedes. You feeling lucky?
Would hope so but they seem to gamble more now. Pretty much if it doesn’t fall off or burn in flames they are gambling it will make it through to warranty end. Think of the labor costs for changing that shaft. Hopefully this one changes that policy. I agree lot of warranty work this year. It’s going to have a effect. Heck they should just call Travis and add his shaft saver to the sleds from the factory!Would hope so but they seem to gamble more now.
