The assembly in TRF is not nearly as precise as it was in Japan, and likely never will be. Not bashing the US built products, but it’s a fact, and Yamaha knows this.
I've said it before....I think A/C employees didn't care for the temporary merger....so I believe in my mind that some hootenany is being played here. Probably not true, but damn,....you gotta wonder

Does your belt run straight in the clutches by eye? Are the belt & clutches hot? Cooler than when you had the shim added? I wonder if you'd benefit from decreasing offset more still. My offset was 61.5. I removed the 1mm washer so now it's 60.5.
I now have 4800 miles spread out over 7 belts. I tried different belts & 2 are for towing. (my 2-stroke boys bought 4-strokes this year).
I have 2 8JP's with over 800 miles that look pretty good. Next week i should have over 1500 to 2000 miles on one belt. THAT will be the test for me.

Sorry NOS-PRO, I’m not trying to derail your thread here...... I had a lengthy conversation with someone retired from Yamaha this fall about differences in assembly between TRF and Japan. One of the comments that stuck with me centred around staffing. It’s much easier to keep QC at a high level when there are twice the staff available at the facility to do so. I come from the automotive side of life, and there is a clear difference there as well. Vehicles manufactured in Japan are done so with exacting precision, while vehicles manufactured on this continent with the same badge on the hood are simply not assembled with the same quality. It is what it is.I've said it before....I think A/C employees didn't care for the temporary merger....so I believe in my mind that some hootenany is being played here. Probably not true, but damn,....you gotta wonder

265mm and haven’t blown a belt, the last 400 km I’ve been running the 8DN belt just to see how it works and one thing I noticed was on my sled I don’t have to adjust the deflection for this belt, it’s has the proper 8dn ride height in the secondary. I found this rather interesting as most guys have to adjust the deflection for this belt.

Is everyone measuring the same way as I am? With the Primary installed and adding the 20.5mm?

Soup, you're killing me!
I have to get 4000 miles this year or i'll explode! My friends won't talk to me if i don't.
If i keep testing i'll fail in my quest...........OK i'll see if it makes a difference. It's like homework!
P.S. I never did homework.....explains the C average

1mm= .040” that’s a large spark plug gap. The naked eye can easily see under .020. (With cheaters better). So the ruler method is just fine. Now if your OCD like Steveo then yes your gonna need some precision tools to satisfy your self. Lol

We need every 'Winder guy to measure & report because 12 guys doesn't make it very condemning one way or the other.
Then again if they use a stick ruler & report the wrong dimension it taints the test even worse.

Well a stick ruler wasn’t really what I was thinking, more along the lines of a machinist rule. I can just see it now..... a tree branch with a notch carved in it! ......hey clutch master said it’s good enough.....lol

I remeasured tonight after fixing my stub shaft assembly - while I have a good machinists ruler, I had to eyeball the center of the bolts in the stub shaft and jack shaft, with that I cam up with 262mm - 262.5mm.

Please make sure you update your measurement so we can see if the shorter distance is causing more belt problems.
Thanks bud
